Second grade students have been learning about insects and their life cycles. Not only did they get to see a Praying Mantis hatch (watch it again here), which is an example of incomplete metamorphosis, they also observed the life cycle of butterflies. As part of their engineering design challenge, students were asked to create a bug catcher using recycled materials. Here are some of their wonderful creations! Will they work? We will soon find out, however the engineering design process will have them assess their bug catchers and make any needed modifications. What a great STEM unit our second graders were able to experience.
